Happy Resurrection Day!

Happy Resurrection Day! My wife came across this video online a couple of days ago, and I want to share it with you. It's titled "#Falling Plates." My wife and I watched it together, and I am glad that we did! It moved both of us. May it move your heart, as well, to the truth, power, and awe of God's salvation and redemption for us through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Peace be with you!

QUESTION: Where has God picked up the pieces of your falling plates and put you back together?

Camp and the Eschatological Formation of Students

Camp and the Eschatological Formation of Students

Big Title - Simple Concept: Kids live within the embrace of the Resurrection and Heaven at camp. I don't wish to over dramatize the camp experience, but certainly, anyone who has ever led or attended a camp understands that something 'special' happens there. It is mysterious. It is magical. And it is a core aspect of the faith development of students.

As a retired camper myself, I can remember my leaders telling me that what we were experiencing — the happy belly flutters and feelings of deep peace and joy — during our week at camp was as close to Heaven on Earth as we would get. The full weight of their perspective was lost on me until I became leader myself. Now, I get it.

The Proof is in the Pudding

During seminary, I led a small group of teenage high school boys. Among them was a kid named Rob. He was a sophomore, and to put it mildly, he epitomized the image of the archetypal 15-year-old adolescent teenager.

He stood about 5 foot 4, and weighed about a buck – at least that’s what he claimed. He wore braces; had acne; he smelled. His hair was always disheveled. Honestly, he was the runt of the high school pack.

But he grabbed my heart the first time I met him.
